The House Red is a hot band with
a cool selection of Classic Rock and Blues with a twist of Crosby,
Stills, Nash, and Young, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and Nora
Jones tossed into the mix, guaranteed to make your event memorable,
enjoyable, and danceable! |
| History of the band: |
In the summer of
2000, a group of musicians would gather at Foley Vineyards in
the Santa Ynez Valley and play music on Sunday afternoons. As
individuals floated in and out of the mist, a core group coalesced
into an increasingly tight band of musicians that became committed
to taking music familiar to a great number of people and adding
their own personality, both individually and as a band, to the
songs, creating fresh and interesting performances to familiar
tunes. Time progressed, and the group became known as the Foley
House Band. Taking the cue, the name "House Red" was taken, and the band began
venturing out to other wineries as well as playing for weddings,
corporate and private parties, and sharing our love of music with
anyone wishing to listen.
Through the years they have been invited to play for the Santa Barbara County
Winegrower's Harvest Festival, Vintner's Festival, and for various wineries'
release celebrations. Centered on California's Central Coast, House Red has ranged
from Rancho Cucumonga in the south to Paso Robles to the north, and looks forward
to ranging farther afield if conditions are right. |
Biographies: |
Mary
Welsh - This woman can flat out sing-- her voice has a smoky richness
that reminds us all of Bonnie Raitt. Mary has been singing her
entire life. In fact, she started singing before she started talking.
In addition to growing up singing in high school and the church
choir, she made her musical theater debut with the Santa Barbara
City College Theatre Group in 1995. Her love however, is rock
and roll and blues. She has an amazing knack for memorizing lyrics
and has been called a "walking jukebox". Her passion
and love of music and sense of humor are beyond compare.

Jim Scoolis -
Guitars and vocals- Jim has been playing guitar and singing for
over 30 years on the Central Coast and Southern California. He
is comfortable playing in many different styles, but favors blues
styles from Robert Johnson to Albert, BB, and Freddie King to
Eric Clapton, Jimmy and Stevie Ray Vaughn and more. Jim is a founding
member of the House Red Band and is the band authority on the
blues and soul flavors of the HRB repertoire.

Craig
Welsh - Bass and Vocals. Craig is a talented
multi-instrumentalist who began playing guitar too many years
ago to count. He began performing with his band around the
South Coast in the '60's before his family moved to Las Vegas.
While there, he formed another band that performed as the
opening act for such artists as Sweetwater, Iron Butterfly,
and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Craig also became involved
in musical theater, providing guitar accompaniment to many
productions including Godspel, Schoolhouse Rock, Once on This
Island, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Craig and
his wife, Mary, joined House Red in the summer of 2002, and
never looked back.

Terance
Kyer - Terrance is our hard working drummer,
managing the bands ‘engine room’. Terrance was born and raised
in Kentucky and is well acquainted with rhythm and blues,
rock, and funk genres. In addition, to drumming, he works
as a personal trainer… we aren’t sure if those muscles are
from lifting weights or swinging drumsticks. He makes the
band go with the beat designed to move your feet.
|
Terry
Lawless - Terry, is the ingredient that
makes the Band "...go to eleven"! Terry is a
keyboardist, but is also fluent in all the reeds and double
reeds, majoring in bassoon performance while attending
Coe College and the University of Iowa. He has worked
strictly in the music business for over 30 years, touring
with many major acts as a player / programmer, recently
returning from the U2 "Vertigo" tour. Terry
now operates a vintage keyboard overdub studio in Santa
Maria, CA, where he and David record and master their
CDs. His roots run deep in jazz, rock and pop as well
as classical.

Charlie
“Conga Man” Katherman - Charlie began playing
the drums at age 6, but gave them up after a short uneventful
career in several garage bands during his high school years.
A little later on he took up playing various percussion instruments
including the congas. His interest in music spans everything
from Classical Jazz and Big Bands to Rock & Roll
to Latin Jazz & Soul Music to Rhythm & Blues. Since joining
the HRB in 2005 on a part-time basis, he’s having more fun than
imaginable not only playing with friends but playing for friends.
He is clearly the happiest man on stage.
